We wanted to do something different for our New Deli Annual Christmas Party- there would be so many of us! So we played a new style of “Yankee Swap”. Each person had to follow specific directions- it was a blast!

Castle Cake: Great Fun for a Boy’s Birthday!
A castle cake project the whole family can help with. We scavenger hunted at various stores for the supplies. My husband and older grandson did the math, for cutting the cake into the right sizes, and we all decorated it. Fun!
Brazil Bark (For Fast, Healthy Smoothies)
Why “Brazil Bark”? For the best, easy, nutritious smoothies and other drinks! The coconut spread has MCTs that contribute to brain health and energy. The butter is synergistic for those of us taking cod liver oil (which improves our Omega 3/6 ratio). And Brazil nuts give us our daily selenium, which can be hard to come by. Whoot!
Hot Cocoa (or Cool Fudge), Paleo-Style
I cut way down on bread. And I try to eat more organic produce, + free-range, grass-fed, wild-caught, yada yada… But… sometimes I just need CHOCOLATE! I can keep from sabotaging my health but making a quick drink out of this stuff. (Or eating as-is.)
Inflammation: Natural Answers (Bone Broth, Etc.)
I don’t like synthesized vitamin/mineral products. I believe we need a proper balance of naturally occurring nutrients to maintain health. A lot of studies support this! A natural mineral combination, like that found in this Mineral Whey (from grass-fed goats), is best absorbed. It’s very concentrated, containing more than 20 naturally occurring minerals, and is real alkaline, which helps reduce acidic deposits in arthritic joints. (An acid/alkaline balance is crucial!)
New Deli Style Thanksgiving Recipes from Jen’s Kitchen
Cook your bird upside-down- it won’t look as glamorous, but will be moist & tasty. Don’t like rolling out pie crust? Try pumpkin upside-down pie. More tips too- I’ve gathered ’em together…
Thanksgiving Centerpiece: A Good Verse, Nice Table & Friends
Decorate the Thanksgiving table with seasonal fruit: pomegranates, persimmons, citrus & greenery. Write each person’s name on a colorful autumn leaf, with a sharpie pen.
Quest Bars (& Vitafiber): Recipe, Review
Quest bars: all the rage with many body-builders, paleo-happy types, & for many seeking low-carb solutions to cravings. For me, Quest bars seem OK. But just in a pinch. (Then again, I am in a pinch sometimes!)
I’d never heard of Vitafiber. Or Quest bars. I don’t run with the crowd that works out at the gym and buys muscle-building supplements! But I do get a lot of exercise, and hitch a ride on the Paleo bandwagon often enough, so Nolan’s interests and mine do intersect at points. Not to mention the frugal quality- saving money can be a driving force for me!
Fresh Beets Beat Packaged- Pickled, Runner Up
Those packaged beets found in the cold case, steamed & peeled, are a convenience. But they don’t beat fresh-cooked beets for flavor, color, & texture. Put the gloves on- it’ll be less messy!
Artichoke Frittata, Gluten-Free
Many popular breakfast places add flour to their egg dishes, knowing it helps the eggs hold their shape- to stay light, fluffy… But potato starch works too. This is a great dish for party time- easy to make!
